A great place to store and share your photos is flickr. Not only do you have access to your own photos, but many others as well. One can get lost in all the photos available and even find yourself challenged to duplicate a particular photo. No longer to you have to pull out box after box to share your photos. Nor do you have to try and figure out where the picture was taken or even who is in it. flickr allows you to edit, tag, and label your pictures. You can access them anywhere you have an internet connection, print them, share them and even adapt them using the third party applications available.

What is digg? Acccording to digg “it is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users. You won’t find editors at Digg [talk about free speech]— we’re here to provide a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we’re changing the way people consume information online.” I was introduced to Digg over a year ago and use it as one of my primary sources of news and information. I just DIGG IT!

MOLDI=OLDIE

Browsing through the digital collection of MOLDI, I disocvered a wealth of older stuff. I’m not sure I would use the digital collection on MOLDI that much for music as I prefer iTunes or rhapasody. However, the book collection is OK and gives you access to some titles you may have difficulty finding in a bookstore or library. The collection that thrilled me the most was the eFlicks collection. As someone who likes older films I was lost browsing this collection and trying to decide which one to download first. Les Vampires–A legendary seven-hour silent crime serial in ten episodes. Les Vampires follows the exploits of a brazen and resourceful band of arch-criminals who rob the rich, transfix the elite of France, and almost elude the obsessive pursuit of crusading journalist Phillipe Guerande and his sidekick Mazamette. A series of Grand Vampires with names such as Satanas and Venomous share the irresistible Irma Vep (an anagram of “vampire”) as strategist and mistress. Sometimes seductively garbed in a black body stocking and a black hood, sometimes disguised as a boy or hidden in plain view as a maid, stenographer or bourgeois spinster, feared and desired by both her cohorts and stalkers, Irma is perhaps the first liberated screen woman. OR How about Wanted for Murder?–This little-seen gem, the latest in the acclaimed Pulp Cinema series of film noir classics, was directed by Lawrence Huntington, a veteran of small B-noirs like The Patient Vanishes (1941), The Upturned Glass (1947), and Man on the Run (1948). Reminiscent of Edgar Ulmer’s Bluebeard, this portrayal of a serial killer gradually succumbing to love for one of his chosen victims was written by Emeric Pressburger (who also co-wrote and directed some of the most highly regarded films of all time such as The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus). Also known as Voice in the Night, this well-received British noir is digitally restored from the 35mm negative. Some many to choose from so little time.

Tool box of Web 2.0 includes Make, which allowed me to visit the inside of a frozen pizza factory. Did you know it only takes a few people to run and make over two million frozen pizzas a week. Who knew?

Break in the Chain

There are so many library related blogs and news articles avaialable it is hard to keep track. My google reader allows me to quickly filter through many feeds in a short amount of time. I really don’t search for new ones, but often find new ones to add through a post that ened up in my reader. One link leads to another and another and another. Someday I am going to have to see if I can trace a link back to the very beginning. The never ending cycle.

Rip Up Those Scrap Pieces of Paper

Shelfari to the rescue! How many times have you wrote a title of a book, CD, DVD, etc. that you would like to read, watch, and/or listen to on a scrap piece of paper? How many times have you lost said piece of paper? How many times have you been in a room with a group of people talking about books and unfortunately, nobody has the same reading interests you do? Well, no more! Shelfari to the rescue. What a great place to organize the books you’ve read, want to read and even discuss with others. Library Thing is another place to organize your books.

Google docs rock! I have been using google docs for over a year as a way to collaborate on documents with library folks all across the state. Talk about reducing e-mail. No longer are we each making changes to separate doucments, sending them back and forth, merging the changes and sending them again. Google docs has allowed us to streamline the process and reduce e-mail. All in one place!!!!!

Podcasts

I have been using podcasts for awhile. I love how you can get snippets of different things here and there. So far I have been able to find something on any topic I have searched for. I like “Themysciran Times” comment regarding uses in the library.

“Do podcasts have a place in the library? Absolutely! I can see so many ways that we could embrace this technology. Imagine it- podcasts on: How the Dewey Decimal system works, or how to get a library card, or even podcast Storytimes! Portable story times that parents can keep and play over and over and do with their kids. Podcasts on the importance of teaching and learning Reading Readiness. My mind is overflowing with ideas. We need to start sharing our story and vision through podcasts. “ I have to concur.
